Vocational Centers for Adults with Autism

Many states have vocational centers for adolescents and adults with autism to help them learn job, community living and independent living skills. These centers are vitally important for people with autism because they provide them with the resources and opportunities to reach the ultimate aim of a healthy and happy adult life. It is important to understand that in our country people with autism and other disabilities exit the entitlement system (free and appropriate education through the public school system) and enter an eligibility system (through the Department of Developmental Disabilities and Department of Vocational Rehabilitation) at age 21. This means that they are put in a position where they and their families are required to actively seek out funding and programs to help them. Vocational Centers provide services which help this transition and provide assistance to accessing these services.
The following is a list of Vocational Centers by state. I’ve tried to find as many vocational centers as possible to help you and your family in the search for vocational services. Being listed on this page, however, is not necessarily an endorsement for quality of services. Please be sure to research the center yourself to make sure it is the right fit for you.
