Research Opportunity: Social Perception and Motivation Study

Who

The Center for Autism Research at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is looking for children between the ages of 8 and 13. Typically developing children and children who have been diagnosed with ASDs may join. We are also seeking typically developing adults.

Goal

This study is designed to gain a better understanding of differences in the way children with ASDs and typically developing children recognize faces and facial expressions and use feedback from others. The study will use this information to develop and test a new computer game intervention for children with ASD to improve these skills.

Procedure

Participants will be asked to play a series of computerized games over a 12-week period. They will receive brain imaging before and after the gaming intervention to measure changes in the brain due to game play. Participating children will also receive a comprehensive behavioral evaluation.
